<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%"><span lang="FR">Depuis l&rsquo;av&eacute;nement du <i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal">World Wide Web </i>dans le grand public, durant les ann&eacute;es 90, le r&eacute;seau Internet s&rsquo;est tr&egrave;s vite impos&eacute; dans toutes les facettes de notre vie quotidienne. Des loisirs &agrave; l&rsquo;&eacute;ducation, de la maison au travail, le Web et les nouveaux outils de la technologie se sont rapidement r&eacute;v&eacute;l&eacute;s incontournables &agrave; notre bon fonctionnement dans la soci&eacute;t&eacute; d&rsquo;aujourd&rsquo;hui. &Agrave; l&rsquo;aube de l&rsquo;&egrave;re num&eacute;rique et du nouveau mill&eacute;naire, l&rsquo;utilisateur a vite appris &agrave; ma&icirc;triser ces nouvelles technologies pour les mettre &agrave; son service. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%">Moins d&rsquo;une d&eacute;cennie plus tard, l&rsquo;&eacute;mergence fulgurante des m&eacute;dias sociaux est venu confirm&eacute; le positionnement privil&eacute;gi&eacute; de l&rsquo;utilisateur dans le nouvel &eacute;chiquier. Profitant de l&rsquo;abondance d&rsquo;informations et de contenus qu&rsquo;offre le r&eacute;seau, l&rsquo;utilisateur jusqu&rsquo;alors passif est subitement devenu l&rsquo;acteur principal d&rsquo;une nouvelle &eacute;conomie non-marchande. Gr&acirc;ce &agrave; cette accessibilit&eacute;, pratiquement sans limites, que lui apporte les m&eacute;dias sociaux, ce nouveau consomm&rsquo;acteur peut d&eacute;sormais d&eacute;cider de tout ce qu&rsquo;il consultera, consommera, commentera et recommandera &agrave; ses pairs.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>Il se r&eacute;v&egrave;le en quelques sortes le cr&eacute;ateur et le diffuseur de sa propre chaine de contenus. Des m&eacute;dias de masse (<i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal">broadcasting</i>), on est vite pass&eacute; &agrave; l&rsquo;&eacute;gocasting (ou diffusion de niche) avec les m&eacute;dias sociaux. C&rsquo;est l&rsquo;&egrave;re de la G&eacute;n&eacute;ration C qui s&rsquo;amorce.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%"><span lang="FR">Dans un excellent article de <i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal">Strategy+Business</i>, paru r&eacute;cemment&nbsp;: <i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal">The Rise of Generation C</i>, Roman Friedrich, Michael Peterson et Alan Koster, associ&eacute;s de Booz&amp;Co. d&eacute;crivent tr&egrave;s bien le ph&eacute;nom&egrave;ne. Dans cet important dossier de pr&egrave;s de 5 pages, (repris en fran&ccedil;ais dans la r&eacute;cente &eacute;dition du magazine Premium) les auteurs prennent l&rsquo;exemple fictif d&rsquo;un jeune de 20 ans, en 2020, pour d&eacute;crire les principales tendances &agrave; observer au cours des prochaines ann&eacute;es aupr&egrave;s des jeunes de sa g&eacute;n&eacute;ration. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%">&Agrave; travers une s&eacute;rie de statistiques projet&eacute;es jusqu&rsquo;en 2020, les auteurs font la d&eacute;monstration de l&rsquo;impact de ces nouveaux consommateurs connect&eacute;s sur l&rsquo;&eacute;volution du Web social. Et, comment ces nouveaux utilisateurs viendront bouleverser le monde du travail, et influencer des secteurs &eacute;conomiques majeurs tels les t&eacute;l&eacute;communications, le commerce au d&eacute;tail et l&rsquo;industrie du voyage.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%">En s&rsquo;appuyant sur diff&eacute;rentes &eacute;tudes, ils avancent qu&rsquo;en 2020, 6 milliards de personnes auront un cellulaire, soit pr&egrave;s de 80% de la population mondiale, et 4,7 milliards auront acc&egrave;s &agrave; Internet, principalement au moyen d&rsquo;appareils mobiles.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>Que le Web, comme source d&rsquo;informations, prendra une place encore plus importante, et que le trafic sur Internet sera multipli&eacute; par dix avant 2013.<span style="mso-spacerun:<br />
yes">&nbsp; </span>En &laquo;visionnaires&raquo;, les auteurs vont jusqu&rsquo;&agrave; pr&eacute;dire que d&rsquo;ici 2020, la moiti&eacute; des employ&eacute;s des grandes soci&eacute;t&eacute;s travailleront en &eacute;quipes virtuelles form&eacute;es de personnes vivant un peu partout dans le monde.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%">En somme, <i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal">The Rise of Generation C</i> reste un tr&egrave;s bon article, dont je n&rsquo;h&eacute;siterais pas &agrave; recommander la lecture pour quiconque veut se faire une meilleure id&eacute;e de la nouvelle g&eacute;n&eacute;ration d&rsquo;utilisateurs d&rsquo;Internet et des m&eacute;dias sociaux. D&rsquo;ailleurs, ce mois-ci, il est repris en fran&ccedil;ais dans la nouvelle &eacute;dition du magazine Premium&nbsp;: <i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal">Tout sur la G&eacute;n&eacute;ration C</i>, et comment&eacute; par Yanick B&eacute;dard, directeur des op&eacute;rations interactives chez Sid Lee.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%"><span lang="FR">Cependant, m&ecirc;me si leur article d&eacute;crit bien les tendances observ&eacute;es aupr&egrave;s de la nouvelle g&eacute;n&eacute;ration, les auteurs semblent confondre<span style="mso-spacerun:<br />
yes">&nbsp; </span>la notion de G&eacute;n&eacute;ration C avec celle des natifs num&eacute;riques, n&eacute;s apr&egrave;s 1990. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%">Au Qu&eacute;bec, le CEFRIO (Centre francophone d&rsquo;informatisation des organisations) semble adopter la m&ecirc;me fausse piste en opposant sa vision de la G&eacute;n&eacute;ration C &agrave; celle plus courante de la G&eacute;n&eacute;ration Y. Pourtant, dans leur analyse, les responsables de l&rsquo;organisme de recherches qu&eacute;b&eacute;cois associent les comportements de cette g&eacute;n&eacute;ration &agrave; ceux des natifs num&eacute;riques (qu&rsquo;ils d&eacute;signent plut&ocirc;t comme les enfants du mill&eacute;naire, n&eacute;s apr&egrave;s 1999)&hellip;&nbsp;!!!???<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%">Cependant, m&ecirc;me s&rsquo;il confond les natifs num&eacute;riques avec la G&eacute;n&eacute;ration C (ou Y&nbsp;?), le CEFRIO a n&eacute;anmoins le m&eacute;rite de faire avancer la r&eacute;flexion, et d&rsquo;organiser un colloque annuel sur la nouvelle g&eacute;n&eacute;ration d&rsquo;utilisateurs du web social, dont le premier avait lieu en octobre 2009. De plus, le CEFRIO a commenc&eacute; &agrave; publier les r&eacute;sultats de son enqu&ecirc;te sur la G&eacute;n&eacute;ration C, sous forme de fascicule Web de 16 pages. Le premier fut publi&eacute; en janvier 2011&nbsp;: <a href="http://bit.ly/4SmJl">GENERATION C&nbsp;: Les &laquo;C&raquo; en tant que citoyens&nbsp;!</a>.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%">N&eacute;anmoins, une certaine confusion semble s&rsquo;&ecirc;tre install&eacute;e au sujet de la G&eacute;n&eacute;ration C et des natifs num&eacute;riques. Et, je r&eacute;alise &agrave; mon grand dam, que j&rsquo;y ai probablement contribu&eacute; moi aussi, d&rsquo;une certaine mani&egrave;re, en m&ecirc;lant les deux notions dans les premi&egrave;res pages de mon livre <i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal">Comment entreprendre le virage 2.0</i> (pp. 18-19). Alors, comme il n&rsquo;est jamais trop tard pour faire amende honorable, et signaler ce qu&rsquo;on croit sinc&egrave;rement &ecirc;tre une erreur (m&ecirc;me de bonne foi), je vais tenter de remettre les pendules &agrave; l&rsquo;heure.<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: normal; ">&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%"><span lang="FR">En fait, la notion de <i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal"><a href="http://trendwatching.com/trends/GENERATION_C.htm">Generation C</a></i> est apparue en f&eacute;vrier 2004, puis en d&eacute;cembre 2006, dans une s&eacute;rie de billets de l&rsquo;&eacute;quipe du webzine am&eacute;ricain Trendwatching.com. D&egrave;s le d&eacute;part, les r&eacute;dacteurs du magazine ont insist&eacute;s sur le fait qu&rsquo;il ne s&rsquo;agit pas d&rsquo;une nouvelle g&eacute;n&eacute;ration sociologique, mais plut&ocirc;t d&rsquo;une nouvelle communaut&eacute; d&rsquo;int&eacute;r&ecirc;ts&nbsp;; celle des utilisateurs du Web 2.0 et des m&eacute;dias sociaux. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%">&Agrave; travers ses observations, l&rsquo;&eacute;quipe du Trendwatching a vite relev&eacute; l&rsquo;importance des contenus g&eacute;n&eacute;r&eacute;s par les utilisateurs dans le nouvel &eacute;cosyst&egrave;me des m&eacute;dias sociaux. On y soulignait le rapport entre les contenus diffus&eacute;s sur le Net, et les principaux centres d&rsquo;int&eacute;r&ecirc;ts alors observ&eacute;s chez les utilisateurs&nbsp;; cr&eacute;ativit&eacute;, contenus, contr&ocirc;le, convivialit&eacute;&#8230; mais aussi &laquo;<em>cash</em>&raquo; et c&eacute;l&eacute;brit&eacute;. Cette nouvelle approche g&eacute;n&eacute;rationnelle fut aussi vite adopt&eacute;e par l&rsquo;ensemble de la communaut&eacute; internationale du <i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal">World Wide Web</i>.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%">Aujourd&rsquo;hui, gr&acirc;ce &agrave; leur connexion Internet, les nouveaux utilisateurs <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight:<br />
normal">contr&ocirc;le</b>nt d&eacute;sormais les<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight:normal"> contenus</b> qu&rsquo;ils consulteront, et choisiront de partager avec leur communaut&eacute;. En pouvant diffuser de la sorte leurs propres contenus, dans une approche toujours plus facile et <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight:normal">conviviale</b>, ils expriment enfin librement, sans contraintes, leur propre <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight:normal">cr&eacute;ativit&eacute;</b>, et se rapprochent de leur moment de gloire et de <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight:normal">c&eacute;l&eacute;brit&eacute;</b>. Dans ce contexte, la notion G&eacute;n&eacute;ration C englobe l&rsquo;ensemble des utilisateurs des nouveaux outils du Web 2.0 et des m&eacute;dias sociaux, de 15 &agrave; 75 ans. Aussi, on ne saurait la confondre plus longtemps avec les natifs num&eacute;riques.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%"><span lang="FR">C&rsquo;est en octobre 2001, au tournant du si&egrave;cle, que Mark Prensky a amen&eacute; l&rsquo;id&eacute;e d&rsquo;une nouvelle g&eacute;n&eacute;ration enti&egrave;rement issue de l&rsquo;&egrave;re num&eacute;rique. C&rsquo;est dans un article intitul&eacute; <a href="http://bit.ly/gxuBqH">Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants</a> , paru dans le journal <i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal">On The Horizon</i> (MCB University Press, Vol. 9 No. 5), qu&rsquo;il a d&rsquo;abord lanc&eacute; son concept, en se basant sur sa propre exp&eacute;rience de professeur &agrave; l&rsquo;universit&eacute;.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%">Dans son ouvrage, <i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal">Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants</i>, Prensky faisait allusion aux jeunes n&eacute;s dans les ann&eacute;es 90 (1994-&hellip;), tout de suite apr&egrave;s la G&eacute;n&eacute;ration Y (1979-1993). Ces <em>enfants du mill&eacute;naire</em> qui auront grandis et &eacute;volu&eacute;s avec les supports num&eacute;riques (CD/DVD), les jeux vid&eacute;o, le t&eacute;l&eacute;phone cellulaire et Internet.&nbsp;Une nouvelle g&eacute;n&eacute;ration multi-fonctionnelle que les am&eacute;ricains appellent plut&ocirc;t la <i>Generation Z</i> ou <i>Net Generation</i>,<span>&nbsp;u</span>ne g&eacute;n&eacute;ration qui aura v&eacute;cu son adolescence durant les premi&egrave;res ann&eacute;es du nouveau mill&eacute;naire, avant d&rsquo;aller &agrave; l&rsquo;universit&eacute; ou d&rsquo;opter pour le march&eacute; du travail.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%">Finalement, ce n&#39;est que quelques ann&eacute;es plus tard, que le magazine Trendwatching s&rsquo;est pench&eacute; sur le ph&eacute;nom&egrave;ne de la nouvelle g&eacute;n&eacute;ration d&rsquo;utilisateurs du Web, pour d&eacute;terminer que plusieurs traits de comportements similaires pouvaient n&eacute;anmoins relier les natifs et les migrants num&eacute;riques.<span style="mso-spacerun:<br />
yes">&nbsp; </span>C&rsquo;est cette observation qui a donn&eacute; naissance au concept de G&eacute;n&eacute;ration C, bien apr&egrave;s celui des natifs num&eacute;riques. En fait, les natifs ne repr&eacute;sentent que la pointe de l&rsquo;iceberg&nbsp;; la G&eacute;n&eacute;ration C regroupe un nombre toujours grandissant de migrants num&eacute;riques qui proviennent des g&eacute;n&eacute;rations pr&eacute;c&eacute;dentes.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%">Les tendances les plus importantes, relev&eacute;es par l&rsquo;&eacute;quipe &eacute;ditoriale du magazine, proviennent pour la plupart de traductions d&rsquo;articles rep&ecirc;ch&eacute;s &agrave; travers la presse internationale, alors qu&rsquo;on s&rsquo;est content&eacute; d&rsquo;un court extrait pour celles jug&eacute;es moins importantes. &Eacute;videmment, les principales tendances observ&eacute;es rel&egrave;vent des m&eacute;dias sociaux, d&rsquo;Internet et de la culture num&eacute;rique, mais touchent autant &agrave; la soci&eacute;t&eacute; qu&rsquo;&agrave; la mode, au design et&hellip; &agrave; la cuisine.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%">Je dois l&rsquo;avouer, j&rsquo;ai &eacute;prouv&eacute; un malin plaisir &agrave; d&eacute;cortiquer ce num&eacute;ro sp&eacute;cial du Courrier International. Et, sans vouloir jouer moi-m&ecirc;me au proph&egrave;te, je me suis amus&eacute; &agrave; remanier l&rsquo;ordre propos&eacute; en &eacute;tablissant des liens avec d&rsquo;autres tendances annonc&eacute;es. Pour finalement aboutir avec cinq nouvelles listes que je vous proposerai au cours des prochains jours. Dans certains cas, il s&rsquo;agit des tendances lourdes qui s&rsquo;annon&ccedil;aient d&eacute;j&agrave; depuis un bon moment, dans d&rsquo;autres de mouvements qui s&rsquo;av&egrave;rent d&rsquo;avance aussi &eacute;ph&eacute;m&egrave;res que le temps&hellip; Je les ai regroup&eacute;es en cinq th&eacute;matiques pour lesquelles j&rsquo;ai &eacute;tabli un Top 10, qui n&rsquo;en est pas un, et auquel j&rsquo;ai rajout&eacute; parfois deux ou trois mouvances plut&ocirc;t sp&eacute;ciales, parfois loufoques ou carr&eacute;ment futiles, toujours telles qu&rsquo;observ&eacute;es par l&rsquo;&eacute;quipe du Courrier International.</p>
